The landscape of education is ever-evolving, and your ability to navigate and thrive in this dynamic environment is key. In recognition of this, and in accordance with the Ministry of Education and Youth’s recommendations, we are pleased to announce that Cabinet, through Decision No. 27/06 – 17, has approved the Beginning Teacher Mentorship Policy. This policy introduces a mandatory mentorship programme for all new teachers, as well as those returning to the profession after a hiatus of five or more years. Your participation in this programme will be instrumental in driving continuous improvements in Jamaica’s teaching standards.
Your decision to embark on this noble journey of shaping young minds is truly commendable. We are here to support you every step of the way as you transition into the profession, providing you with the guidance and resources you need. As you prepare for the Mentoring and Induction of Beginning Teachers 2024/2025 Programme, we appreciate your prompt completion of the required documentation, which will ensure a smooth process.

As you begin this exciting chapter, here are some important areas to consider:
- Thriving in an Agile Education System: The landscape of teaching has shifted, incorporating remote and hybrid learning models. Engaging students effectively and supporting their well-being is more crucial than ever.
- AI and Technology Integration: The rise of artificial intelligence and digital tools is reshaping classrooms. From personalized learning to lesson planning, staying current with technological advances will enhance your effectiveness.

Certification Requirements:
To successfully complete the programme in March 2024, you will need to accumulate 80 out of 100 points. Completing the initial form with all relevant information for Phase 1 will earn you 10 points toward this goal.
Programme Structure:
Phase 1:
Synchronous (via Zoom): Live, interactive sessions designed to foster engagement and collaborative learning.
Asynchronous (via Google Classroom): Self-paced learning modules and resources, accessible at your convenience.
Phase 2: One-Day Beginning Teachers’ Symposium: Set for March 2025, this in-person event will offer invaluable professional development opportunities, insights from experienced educators, and networking with your peers.
