The Beginning Teachers 2025/26
"Recasting Teaching as a Collaborative and Future-Ready Profession "
Dear Future Educators,
Warm congratulations as you stand on the cusp of completing your bachelor’s degree and stepping into the noble vocation of teaching. The Jamaica Teaching Council celebrates this milestone with you and extends a heartfelt welcome as you embark on your career in the profession.
As beginning teachers, you are more than new entrants to the classroom; you are key architects of Jamaica’s educational future. Your creativity, resilience, and commitment to lifelong learning will not only inspire your students but also shape the culture of collaboration across schools and communities.
Education today is marked by rapid change, from advances in digital technology to shifts in how students learn and engage. To thrive in this landscape, teachers must be adaptable, innovative, and ready to work together as a collective force for excellence. Recognising this, and following the recommendations of the Ministry of Education and Youth, Cabinet has endorsed the Beginning Teacher Mentorship Policy (Cabinet Decision No. 27/06–17). This policy makes mentorship a mandatory element for all new teachers and those re-entering the profession after a five-year break.
Your participation in the Mentoring and Induction of Beginning Teachers 2025/26 Programme will provide you with structured support, experienced guidance, and access to resources that will empower you to thrive. This programme is not just about easing your transition into the profession; it is about creating a professional culture where collaboration, reflection, and continuous growth are the norm.
To ensure a smooth start, we ask that you complete the required documentation promptly. Details and updates, including your access point to resources, will be shared via our Google Classroom https://classroom.google.com/
Once again, congratulations on reaching this significant milestone. Your commitment to excellence and your passion for teaching will be pivotal to advancing Jamaica’s education system. The Council stands ready to support you at every stage of your journey, ensuring that you are not only well-prepared but also deeply valued as a professional.
Together, let us recast teaching as a collaborative, future-ready profession.
